Antwerp is not just a port city, and the European centre of the diamond trade, but is the epicentre of Belgian fashion and best of all is pet friendly!
Hotel De Witte Lelie, a member of the Small Luxury Hotels group, is the most charming, cool and well-designed luxury hotel and dogs are very welcomes guests. The name may mean “The White Lily” but the decor is anything far from basic white.
With an intimate atmosphere, the hotel is family-run. Staying here feels like being a guest in a private house. The hotel is made up of three seventeenth-century canal houses that have been joined together to create Antwerp’s most luxurious boutique hotel and is situated on Keizerstraat in the heart of the historic centre of the city.
Guests will enjoy the hotel’s welcoming atmosphere, comfortable surroundings and super stylish décor. The hotel offers 11 suites that will leave a lasting impression. Each one is unique with individual decor and works of art, all housing oversized beds, flamboyant colour schemes and decadent bathrooms with Hermes toiletries.
The traditional fabric of the building, including marble fireplaces, high ceilings and exposed beams, stands in stark contrast to bright, bold coloured fabrics, black and white check flooring in the lobby and pieces of stylish modern furniture.
The hotel also boasts a beautiful floral courtyard and the very intimate Bronze Bar for a quiet drink or nightcap.
De Witte Lelie doesn’t have a restaurant, but there are dozens of excellent places to eat within an easy walk and over a dozen places with one or two Michelin stars. The north Belgian region of Flanders counts more Michelin stars per head than France and most restaurants and cafes welcomes dogs.
The charming and very helpful staff are available around the clock – guests are asked to ring the door bell to gain entry – at any time of the day or night.
De Witte Lelie is located only a 5-minute walk from the Flemish guildhalls of the Grote Markt, the Cathedral of Our Lady, as well as the Groenplaats which is only 8 minutes away. Other nearby attractions include the Museum Plantin-Moretus (a World Heritage site), the RubensHuis (the 17th-century home of Pieter Rubens), the banks of the River Sheldt and waterfront Eilandje – an old dockland district, now home to the Red Star Line Museum and the very contemporary Museum aan de Stroom. Antwerpen-Centraal which was built in 1905 is one of the world’s most beautiful railway stations and well worth a visit.
De Witte Lelie is a contemporary urban haven with a chic yet homely feel and is the true gem of Antwerp!
