Situated on Stockholm’s scenic waterfront with the historic Old Town as its picturesque backdrop, Hotel Reisen is a five star luxury with a difference and an incredible past. In Scandinavian terms, the word Reisen means «the Journey» which is the perfect, welcoming metaphor for a luxurious guest experience for you and your four legged friend.

Dating back to 1617, Hotel Reisen will transport you into the memoirs of an eclectic, flamboyant past, of a time when Gustavus Adolphus the Great was the King of Sweden and the world had just invented telescopes and steam turbines.

For centuries, the building has served numerous functions. The name originates from the Dutchman Fredrik Reiss who ran a semi-legal coffeehouse in the 1750s. But — it’s also been used as storehouse, drinking den, and an epicentre for some of the most prominent poets in European history. In here, Carl Michael Bellman was reciting «Drink out thy glass!» whilst chirping up naughty beauties. Fritiof Nilsson Piraten was using room 705 and six half-bottles of Château Margaux to find an exit to his writer’s block. The Russian-American Nobel Prize winner, Joseph Brodsky, locked himself in a corner room drafting poems to make cracks in the Soviet Empire.

The beautifully renovated guestrooms, contemporary and elegant in décor feature the original outer brick wall from the 17th century and comprise all the modern amenities you require during your stay. The stunning Nordic suites have their own private spa with sauna, separate shower and bathtub.

The scenic Reisen restaurant with its unique interiors overlooks the waterfront with spectacular views and is also steeped in history. On May 18th 1898, the restaurant served smörgåsbord, salmon with mayonnaise, chicken with asparagus and glace au caramel together with Piper Heidsieck champagne and Chateau Lafite from 1874. The restaurant cuisine continues to follow this tradition serving classic Swedish dishes with a modern touch. In addition to the restaurant, if you fancy a cocktail or an evening of live music, the hotel also has two Bars to choose from.

The brick cladded vaults in the basement that houses the hotel Spa was built as early as the 1690s, and are actually part of the old city wall. One of the women, who had worked on the construction of the city walls, as many of the workers were women, left her footprint in one of the handcrafted brick stones.

With its amazing location on Stockholm’s scenic waterfront, there is no shortage of tips of places to enjoy from the landmark sights, shopping, restaurants and recreational areas, including the Wasa warship, Skansen outdoor zoo and Culture Park and the Royal Castle. Stockholm is the city for walking, the ideal choice for you and your dog.

The Stockholm archipelago, made up of thousands of islands that stretch deep into the Baltic Sea, it’s a fantastic way to combine Swedish culture with nature.

Above all, you will be impressed by the professionalism and friendliness of all the staff at Hotel Reisen making your stay above all expectation.
