“Life is magnifique” is The Grand’s motto.

True to its motto, you will find every imaginable service that is nothing short of exceptional five star luxury at the Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam and dogs are also very welcome!

Located between two historical canals in the heart of the city, just outside the famous Red Light District, all great landmarks are within walking distance, which makes it perfect for walking with your dog.

The Grand boasts a very rich history. The monumental building of The Grand has been part of Amsterdam’s cultural heritage since 1578. Beginning its life in the 15th-century as a convent, it later became the royal lodgings, and in the 17th century the Dutch admiralty headquarters to later becoming the city hall of Amsterdam. If the walls of this historic hotel in the Old Centre could talk, they’d have six centuries’ worth of tales to tell.

The building was transformed into hotel Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam in 1992, with no expense was spared to renovate this iconic establishment. The Grand offers a blend of Dutch history and French luxurious contemporary design.  Architect Sybille de Margerie’s understated design underlines original architectural details with classic French elegance whilst carefully preserving the rich heritage of the site. The high ceilings and white marble floors maintain a sense of grandeur. You’ll also find notable references to famous people who have passed through including including William of Orange, Maria de Medici, Henry Hudson and Winston Churchhill to name but a few.

The Grand boasts 178 guestrooms and suites decorated in a contemporary classic style with modern facilities and services. The 52 luxury suites include butler service. The hotel also offers suitably spacious apartments, as well as three presidential suites, and three Royal Suites.

The Grand has two restaurants on site. The fine-dining Michelin starred restaurant Bridges, has claimed many awards and focuses on seafood. An amazing gastronomical experience awaits with creations by Chef de Cuisine Raoul Meuwese in an elegant atmosphere with views of the oldest canal in Amsterdam and stunning art by revered Dutch CoBrA artist Karel Appel. The garden bistro Oriole offers an all-day menu with a Mediterranean influence. You can also relax with a coffee or a cocktail at the lively bar or at the Dutch brown café The Flying Dutchman. In Library ‘Or’ you can enjoy The Grand Afternoon Tea.

To re-energise after a long day of sightseeing, you can indulge in the Sofitel SPA with heated indoor pool, sauna, hammam and fitness area.

The Grand offers guests the opportunity to learn more about the incredible history and stories of the past with a daily historical tour

Gracious and attentive service, everything is magnificent at The Grand.
