With a history dating back to 1836, Château d’Ygrande, formerly Château du Mont, was built by Count Eugène de la Roche in the middle of a park and next to the old fortified castle, now in ruins. The family and descendants of La Roche lived there until 1910, adding to the castle ample outbuildings and remarkably maintained gardens. From the end of the First World War, the new owner, Lemaire de Marne, undertook major works, giving the castle its current appearance.
In 1925, the château was purchased by the Souchard de la Voreille family, wealthy owners of large Burgundy vineyards in Santenay and Pommard. After the death of the de la Voreille parents in 1969, the youngest daughter Chantal sold the château to M. Bizet. Bizet sold the estate in 1983 to Roger Bardot, an Icelandic horse breeder. After the sale of nearly 200 hectares and two farms in 1998, the Château du Mont, its stud farm and its remaining 40 hectares were purchased by Mr. and Mrs. Tissier-Malergue and renamed Château d ‘Ygrande, from the name of the neighboring village.
The Château grounds feature meticulously tended gardens bursting with bright, colourful plants and flowers. It offers a range of leisure activities for all guests on and off site from spa treatments, swimming, walking, cycling, horse-riding, cookery lessons, exploring the rich Bourbonnais heritage, the Saint-Pourçain vineyards and much more.
