Dating back to 1861, this stunning five star luxury establishment, with its exquisite classic architecture, featuring a beautiful stone-cut façade and a brilliant mansard roof, was designed by the Baron Haussman.

The history of the hotel dating back more than 150 years, highlights its stature as the prestigious and illustrious Jockey Club of Paris for 60 years. In France, the Jockey Club de Paris was the choice organisation for the country’s social elite. Founded during the 1830s, this social club quickly emerged as a dominant cultural force in the French capital. It bounced around numerous homes throughout the city a ceaseless pursuit for a venue that would appropriately reflect the grandeur of its members. After a long search, the Jockey Club de Paris eventually settled on a gorgeous hotel called the “Hôtel Scribe” in 1863. It quickly became the meeting place where members of high-society could gather and just as quickly emerged as one of the city’s most prestigious hotels.

Over the course of time, the hotel has attracted a regular crowd of famous artists, intellectuals, and entertainers. Legendary figures like Marcel Proust, Jules Verne, and Serge Diaghilev have all resided at the hotel. The Hôtel Scribe even served as the Parisian residence for the iconic French-American actress, Josephine Baker. The 2nd floor is dedicated to the well-known music legend.

Auguste and Louis Lumière held the first showing of their Cinematograph at the hotel back in 1895. The event marked the birth of the modern cinema! The restaurant, Le Lumière, is a tribute to the Lumière brothers. Offering an incredibly romantic setting, guests can indulge in the delights of traditional French cuisine under the glass roof of this classic Parisian restaurant.
