Plaza de la Rosaleda
Costa Brava, E-17248
S’Agaró, Girona
The Hostal de la Gavina is one of the most exclusive hotels on the Costa Brava, Spain and Catalunya’s only five star Grand Luxe resort hotel.
A member of the Leading Hotels of the World, this Classically Mediterranean resort, blends gently into its surroundings, the aromas of pine and bougainvillea scenting the warm evening air, with the sounds of the sea drifting in from nearby.
Set on the private enclave of S’Agaró, a small peninsula between two secluded bays, next to the idyllic beaches of St. Pol and Sa Conca, Hostal De La Gavina welcomes guests with their four legged accompanied friends.
With a very long history on the Costa Brava, the hotel occupies a lovely turn of the century building painted entirely in white. A traditional elegant atmosphere, the hotel consists of a meticulous collection of priceless antiques, fine tapestries, silks and glittering chandeliers.
In the early 1920s, Josep Ensesa i Gubert persuaded his father Josep Ensesa i Pujades, a successful industrialist from Girona, to buy the land that stretched from the bay of Sant Pol to the long Sa Conca beach, now known as S’Agaró. The name he chose was a clear reference to the Agaró stream that ran nearby.
His ambitious project of a garden city overlooking the Mediterranean would become one of the most elegant and exclusive spots of the Catalan coast and visited by a large list of personalities from around the world.
Walking through the hallways you feel that at any moment you could come face to face with a Dalí in front of his easel or Hollywood actress Ava Gardner sunbathing by the pool, just two of the many famous signatures among others registered in the visitors’ book.
The guestrooms and suits are all individually decorated, with an air of eccentricity and eclectic design, some feature a traditional Mediterranean romantic style, whilst others resonate an authentic Catalan décor overlooking the beautiful gardens and some with balconies with magnificent sea views.
This vast establishment offers the ideal setting to wander with your dog through the gardens and along the coastal paths.
The hotel boasts a stunning seawater outdoor pool and a heated indoor pool, tennis courts and the Spa & Kanebo Beauty Club offering a selection of body treatments and therapies, as well as a wide range of massages, some that use elixir of caviar, yogurt and fruit or olive oil. The Spa also includes a Jacuzzi, Hammam, sauna, and Romano bath.
With a choice of restaurants on the property guests can indulge in the traditions of Mediterranean cuisine or the fine dining menu at the Candlelight restaurant by Michelin-starred chef Romain Fornell, showcasing the classic, romantic and elegant essence of Hostal de La Gavina combining tradition and modernity in his own creations through regionally inspired cuisine.
The fourth generation of the Ensesa family, Julia, Virginia, Carina and Josep Ensesa Viñas are taking care of the Hotel with the same enthusiasm and commitment as their ancestors and look forward to welcoming you to this unique and magnificent spot. Hostal de la Gavina is a seasonal hotel open from April to October, however it is possible to book outside this period on prior request.
